Neighborhood Relationships - by Trish
We are living in a civilized society. We have communities and we have neighborhoods. Everybody in the neighborhood is connected together. Everyone needs to be friendly with their neighbor and willing to help them when they need it.
Neighbors are the people who live next to your house, close to your house, or around your house. Maybe they have been there a long time or maybe they just moved in. Probably, they speak the same languages as you or they don’t. Some are from Asia, some are from European, some are from Africa...
In my country, neighborhood relationships are very important. Everybody in my village can come to my house, and my family can go to their house. We share everything. If someone cooks a favorite food, they bring that to every family in the village. Even if it's just a little bit, it's ok. It makes a good relationship. Also,we can share some experience in work and in life. I love parties. If any family has a wedding party or birthday party, they invite all the members of the village, and we celebrate at that party. We are very friendly. The Vietnamese say that your distant cousin may not be as good as your close neighbor.
When we moved to America, everything changed. There are still neighbors, but not as friendly as in Vietnam. We can go to our neighbor’s house frequently, except for some reasons. There are a lot of laws here. You can be killed by coming into some house without asking the owner’s permission. Here we just say “ hi, how are you” when we meet them outside. It’s very different with Vietnamese. But actually I love this place. Everybody has freedom. And we still keep good relationships with our neighbors.

So true, I wish neighborhoods were friendlier in America! And I also wish that you could walk to more places close by.
It's true. Where I came from, it's the same. The people here are different, but after they know you they are friendly.

Vietnamese tradition, to be friendly and close with your neighbors, is similar to Russian tradition. We cook together, take care of kids, and go to birthday parties, etc. Now in the USA I don't know the names of my neighbors.

It's true. Vietnamese neighborhoods are similar to Japanese villages. But the city is different. It is more similar to America.

I think your article is very great! The Asian community is very nice and communicates together.
